Happening started in the Roman Catholic Church in Spain (as Cursillo), and was brought to South Africa from the Episcopalian (Anglican) Church
in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, U.S.A.
In 1981 a team, led Revd Scott Wilson, came St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Orchards.
Since then, more than 8000 young people as well as hundreds of mums and dads and clergy, in nine Dioceses
have found a new experience of the Holy Spirit through Happening.

Caritas: A Latin word meaning `Love’ or `Gift’

Butterfly: We are all small and appear to be the same (like the caterpillar),
but as we grow older our true beauty shows (like the butterfly).
Like a butterfly, we are all different, and beautiful in our own way.
The metamorphosis a butterfly undergoes is symbolic of the spiritual growth we all as Christians go through.

Rainbows: A symbol of God’s love for us and His covenant to His people. See Genesis 9:12- 17

Fuzzes: A symbol of our love for each other. Like love, the fuzzes must be shared otherwise they will turn into cold prickles.

Daisies: A free growing wild flower that reminds if 3 things:

The flowers bloom together, like we did on Happening!
The petals radiate from the centre outwards – like us radiating from God’s Grace
The flowers scatter their seeds – we must sow and bloom where God plants us.
